WEST ORANGE, NJ Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced his re-election campaign during a press conference in the gymnasium at Essex County College in Newark on Mon., Dec. 9. Democrats from all around the state on federal, state, county and local levels joined DiVincenzo in support of his candidacy.

Among those present at the press conference in support of DiVincenzo were U.S. Senator Cory Booker, Congressman Donald Payne, Jr., New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Assembly Speaker-Elect Vincent Prieto and 21 Democratic Committee Municipal Chairmen.

Elected in 2002, DiVincenzo is seeking a fourth term. He is the longest-serving county executive in Essex County history. The county, which skews heavily Democrat, is comprised of approximately 800,000 residents.

“Since I first took office in 2003, we have accomplished more than any other administration in Essex County history, including raising the county’s bond rating from junk status to AA2, its highest status ever; revitalizing each of our 22 county parks; completing significant infrastructure upgrades that provide us with a new correctional facility, psychiatric hospital center and government complex; and continuing to provide essential services to assist our residents during one of our nation’s most difficult economic eras,” DiVincenzo said.

“Today, politics is too much of a distraction, Booker said. "I’m concerned about people and progress. That is why I stand with Joe DiVincenzo. Look at his record. He is the most competent and qualified leaders.”

Menendez stated in a letter read at the conference, "Putting Essex County first is not a promotional catch phrase. There is no doubt that people in Essex County are in a much better place today than they were 10 years ago. That’s why I am endorsing Joe DiVincenzo.”

“The work accomplished by Joe DiVincenzo is commendable and the results can be seen throughout the county," Congressman Payne said. "No one can argue with his performance and the results. It is a privilege to stand here in support of Joe D."

Other endorsements came from New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Assembly Speaker-Elect Vincent Prieto and Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura, Essex County Sheriff since 1991, noted, "Joe’s accomplishments are a matter of record."

"If you ask people to look at his record, his re-election as County Executive should be unanimous," he added. "Joe D. is the best thing to ever happen to Essex County."

A Royal Pain

I went to a big wedding over the weekend.  It was in England.

I like to think I was invited, but according to the Royal Guards and the Thames Valley Police I was not.  But more about that later.

You see, not too long ago I received an evite addressed to me from H&M@royalwedbot.co.uk.  Curiously, it was in my spam folder with a warning message. For an evite it was pretty ...
