The second annual casino-themed fundraiser of the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills (JLOSH), Chips for Charity, was hugely successful and a big win for JLOSH’s community programs.

Guests enjoyed an evening of gaming tables, a 50/50 raffle, a large silent auction, and fabulous food and music at the Maplewood Country Club on Friday, March 11, 2011.  Together with the generous support of corporate sponsors, local retailers, and community members, JLOSH’s Chips for Charity event raised over $60,000, which will go directly to charitable programs aiding local women and children in need.

JLOSH is grateful for the generous support of this year’s Silver Sponsors – Coldwell Banker, Creative Wallcoverings & Interiors, Arlene and Thomas Gonnella of Weichert Realtors, Naleri Investments, and John and Laura Overdeck – as well as for the many contributions from Patrons and Friends of the League.

“We truly appreciate all the local area businesses and individuals who supported this fundraiser and made it a success, whether they attended the event or made a donation,” said JLOSH president, Laura Overdeck.  “Our JLOSH volunteers worked for many months to pull this evening together, and the results far exceeded our expectations.”

All proceeds from the Chips for Charity event will go directly to JLOSH’s charitable programs, which support women and children in East Orange, Orange, West Orange, Springfield, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, and Short Hills.  Recent JLOSH projects include providing meals and basic necessities to families in need, offering training and other resources to at-risk youth and their families, and collecting books to support and promote literacy.  JLOSH also continues to teach children about the value and rewards of volunteering with its award-winning book, The Littlest Volunteers

Paterson Firefighter Opens Up About Struggles, Urges Others not to Suffer in Silence

February 8, 2018

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Not a week goes by when a tale of heroism and bravery on the part of firefighters is not told. For them, running into a burning building is as natural as running out of one is for the rest of us.

That became apparent again on Monday when members of the Paterson Fire Department responded to a fire at 268 Main Street, which led to the eventual total collapse of ...

Let the Games Begin

I am truly awed by the Olympics.  Watching these superb young athletes on TV inspires me to renew my membership to the gym and pursue my lifelong dream of taking home the gold.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...

In the Driver's Seat

Honey, I am going to take the Roadster out for a quick spin around the sun. I’ll be back in a few million years.

That’s nice dear. While you are out, could you pick up a gallon of milk?
