Free Reception CelebratesThomas Edison and the Paris Exposition of 1889

The Friends of Thomas Edison Historical Park, in conjunction with the Park staff, invite everyone  to participate in an exclusive commemoration of Edison's triumph at the Paris exposition of 1889.

Space is limited for this event. The Friends of Edison will provide invitations by email on a first come, first served basis. (RSVP to foe00@verizon.net.)

At the 1889 Exposition Universelle, a World's Fair held in Paris, officials and attendees greeted Thomas Edison as a celebrity.

Edison's exhibits occupied more than a third of the space allocated to all US companies at the event and featured the introduction of mass-market versions of his phonograph. 

On July 13, from 1:45 to 4:45 pm, the Thomas Edison National Historical Park will celebrate Edison's experiences and influence in Paris with a new a multi-media presentation and talk.

However, the Friends of Thomas Edison National Historical Park will be hosting a special, free preview of the program on Thursday evening, July 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Thomas Edison NHP.

A reception featuring French cheese, crepes, and French wines provide by the Highlawn Pavilion will follow the presentation.

As mentioned above, anyone wishing to attend must RSVP by email to foe00@verizon.net.

Thomas Edison National Historical Park is home to Thomas Edison's historic home and lab, where he developed many of his great discoveries and inventions. Edison's home is the Glenmont Estate and the grounds are open for tours and public visits for families and children. Ranger-led tours are available at scheduled times throughout the day for the Laboratory Complex, which includes a phonograph demonstration, a tour of the chemistry building and a look at the Black Maria, the world's first film production studio.

The Friends of Thomas Edison NHP is a not-for profit organization dedicated to supporting the Thomas Edison NHP in the preservation, restoration and promotion of Thomas A. Edison’s laboratory and home through advocacy, volunteer service and fundraising. The Friends also strive to foster an appreciation of Thomas A. Edison and his achievements through assisting in the planning of special events and providing programs that satisfy the needs and interests of its members and the local community.
