Governor Chris Christie has appointed Sharon L. Weiner, Esq., to the New Jersey Council on Local Mandates. Ms. Weiner, who is the Township Attorney  for the Township of Livingston, is a partner with the law firm of Murphy Hubner McKeon where she specializes in municipal and land use law.   Sharon L. Weiner stated, “I am thrilled the Governor has appointed me to the Council on Local Mandates.  I believe my wealth of experience in local government issues will make me a valuable asset to the Council.”

Ms. Weiner followed a career in government relations and as an elected official with a second career in the field of law.  In 1986, she served as Mayor of Livingston, New Jersey, after serving as Deputy Mayor and Councilwoman.  In 2002, she was appointed Livingston Township Attorney.  She currently chairs the Local Government Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, is Assistant Counsel to the New Jersey League of Municipalities and was awarded a Diplomate in Local Government Law by the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorney. In addition, she was recognized as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ.

The Council on Local Mandates, an independent branch of State Government, has exclusive constitutional authority to rule that a state law, rule or regulation imposes a constitutional and “unfunded mandate” on boards of education, counties or municipalities and therefore expires
