LIVINGSTON, NJ – The Karkowska Sisters Duo gave an afternoon performance at Livingston Library on June 22. The piano and violin duet performed as part of the Music Matters series, sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Anna Karkowska, who plays violin, and Kasia Karkowska, who plays piano, are Julliard and Chopin Academy graduates who have performed at more than 1,000 venues, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. They also won first prize at WGUC Radio International Competition and the Aspen Music Festival International Competition.
Their performance spanned music from multiple genres: from the opera Porgy and Bess to Yankee Doodle.
“We applaud you for keeping classical music alive,” said Karkowska to the audience.
Aside from receiving much applause from the audience, the sister duo also received laughs as they told stories and gave introductions prior to each piece they performed.
Thea White, organizer of the event, said “They are wonderfully talented musicians with personalities to match.”
The duo’s CD titled, “Virtuosity Through the Ages,” was for sale after the performance.
The Karkowska sisters also offer chamber and recital music, music for young audiences, interdisciplinary programs, master classes and lectures. For more information, go to www.karkowskaduo.org.
