Learn About Edison's Electric Lighting System at Thomas Edison National Historical Park

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Thomas Edison National Historical Park, located at 211 Main St. in West Orange, continues its Year of Innovation programming with series of events highlighting Edison's experiments in electrical lighting as well as new milennium lighting technology.

Edison helped to establish the development of the first truly practical incandescent electric lamp as well as the infrastructure for mass production, and therefore, electric light and power utilities.  Early central stations established in London and Pearl Street in New York City paved the way for a display at the 1889 Paris Exposition.

Thomas Edison and the Paris Exposition of 1889
Edison's exhibits comprised over a third of the space allotted for American companies at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris.  Mass market versions of his phonograph's were featured.
