LIVINGSTON, NJ — A community blood drive sponsored by the Lions Club of Livingston will accompany the upcoming National Night Out event, designed to strengthen neighborhoods though police-community partnerships, to be held at the Memorial Oval on Aug. 7.
From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., a complimentary ShopRite gift card will be provided to each blood donor, as well as a complimentary cholesterol screening. To make an appointment, call (201) 251-3703 or click HERE.
The goal of Livingston’s National Night Out is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs.
According to Livingston’s Community Policing Unit, the event represents the kind of spirit, energy and determination that is helping to make many neighborhoods safer places to live. Officers also stated that it is the perfect opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other even better.
The event will promote various crime prevention programs that are active in Livingston, including neighborhood watch groups, residential and business security surveys, bicycle registration and crime prevention tips.
The opening ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will recognize the Crime Prevention Community Member of the Year.
The free event will include food and drinks, helicopter landings, K9 Units, rides, games, a DJ, the Livingston Fire Department’s water sprinkler, face painting, and balloon sculptures. Displays from various local organizations and businesses will also line the Oval.
Step it Up Events will be present all evening with its open photo booth. Attendees will be able to pose for a fun picture and receive a souvenir copy to take with them. McGruff the Crime Dog, who is shown above, will be posing for photos at the photo booth from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Hot dogs, pizza and drinks will be provided, with members of the Livingston police and fire departments manning the grills. Pizza will be donated by many of Livingston’s pizzerias.
Livingston’s event is supported by donations from Kiwanis Club of Livingston, ShopRite, Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman, Livingston BID, Livingston Chamber of Commerce, Huntington Learning Center, Stop & Shop, Livingston Mall, Livingston Mart and Step It Up Events.
Any organization or local business that would like to have a free display table at the event is asked to contact the Community Policing Unit. Volunteers are also needed for various positions, including running carnival games for children.
