LIVINGSTON, NJ — To supplement its regular monthly resource breakfast for the benefit of members and potential new members, the Livingston Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC) introduced additional events this year that proved successful during the month of June.

For those who are unable to attend the monthly LACC resource breakfast, the LACC now provides afternoon and evening networking opportunities through the monthly “After Hours” meet-up and the monthly “Lunch and Learn.”

In June, members and non-members enjoyed a resource breakfast hosted by the West Essex YMCA, a Lunch and Learn featuring a 30-minute presentation on the “dos and don’ts of networking,” and a “Multi-Chamber” BBQ hosted at Livingston Bagel.

“Along with our regular resource breakfast meetings we have each month, we wanted to offer other times our members can come out and receive the benefits of what the chamber can offer its members,” said LACC President Ira Drucks. “The ‘Lunch and Learn,’ which is held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Senior and Community Center in Livingston, is to offer our members and potential members the opportunity to listen to speakers who can help in marketing, networking and various topics that would help your business grow.”

The June Lunch and Learn event featured 30 minutes of networking and a free lunch prior to a presentation by Bridget Sorenson, a financial representative for International Planning Alliance. Sorenson, who assists her clients by offering holistic planning, discussed the “dos and don’ts of networking” with the LACC Lunch and Learn participants.

During the 30-minute presentation, Sorenson spoke on the importance of relationship building, being a giver and how to help others succeed.

The LACC’s multi-chamber networking barbecue, sponsored by Livingston Bagel, Regal Bank, George Press, Jan Press, Minuteman Press, RWJBarnabas Health, was hosted on the front patio of Livingston Bagel on June 13. Members of the Livingston, Millburn/Short Hills, South Orange, Maplewood, West Orange and North Essex Chambers of Commerce enjoyed networking over dinner and live music.

“The BBQ was a fun networking event,” said Beth Lippman, LACC executive director. “It was a ‘Joint’ Chamber event that brought members from the surrounding chambers of commerce. It is a great opportunity for chamber members to interact and meet members of other chambers that they wouldn’t necessarily meet through their chamber meetings.”

The West Essex YMCA hosted the monthly resource breakfast by providing members with a full-body workout on June 8. Cheryl Francione, YMCA associate executive director, presented a demonstration of the Y’s TRX Suspension Trainer and Rip Trainer, which are combined for a workout designed to work the core muscles as well as increase strength.

“The Y breakfast was a fun, interactive event,” said Lippman. “Members had an opportunity to use the equipment and get help from the staff.”

The LACC’s July “After Hours” meet up, which includes a cash bar, will be held on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Livingston.

In addition, the next Lunch and Learn on July 25 will feature a presentation on health insurance provided by Verizon Blue Cross.

Photos from the June events can be seen above. For more information, contact the LACC at info@livingstonchambernj.com
