LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Livingston Board of Education recently reported that, Jim O’Neill, the new Interim Superindent of Livingston Public Schools has been spending the month of July settling into his new position.

According to a statement provided by LPS, “O’Neill has more than 40 years experience in education and brings a wealth of knowledge, energy and leadership to continue Livingston’s momentum as a leading public school District.”

O’Neill has served in a variety of positions in New Jersey schools. He has been a high school social studies and English teacher in Princeton, principal in Cape May and Superintendent of Schools in Chatham.

“Schools districts have good reputations for a variety of reasons,” Mr. O’Neill said, including student success, parental involvement and dedicated teachers and administrators. “All those things are in place in Livingston.”

This past month, O’Neill has spent time meeting with principals, the school board and staff members. He has also spent some timing looking into the curriculum writing currently being done by teachers at all grade levels, as some subjects will see revisions based on new state standards.

O’Neill has also been overseeing the progress of a special technology committee charged with crafting a vision strategy and identifying the steps to move Livingston forward. “We’re not where we want to be, but I believe we can get there quicker than people thought,” said O’Neill.

These advances in technology will include new computers with online testing capabilites. The new standardized test is known as PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers).

“The world is changing so fast,” said O’Neill. “What will the world we are preparing students for look like? We don’t know and that is a unique challenge. We do know that 75 percent of our kindergartners will be in careers that have not yet been created.”

In addition to O’Neill’s arrival, LPS has also recently welcomed Dr. Theodore Kozlik as the new Interim Assistant Superintendent of Student Services. Previously, he served as the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services and Director of Special Services in Westfield for more than 24 years. See his full bio by clicking HERE.

LPS will begin the school year with all contracts ratified between the Board of Education and the unions representing teachers and staff, principals and supervisors. “We are delighted the contracts are all settled prior to the start of the new school year,” said O’Neill. “This is the result of dedicated Board Members, administrators and teachers all working together for the benefit of our students.”

A Royal Pain

I went to a big wedding over the weekend.  It was in England.

I like to think I was invited, but according to the Royal Guards and the Thames Valley Police I was not.  But more about that later.

You see, not too long ago I received an evite addressed to me from H&M@royalwedbot.co.uk.  Curiously, it was in my spam folder with a warning message. For an evite it was pretty ...
