MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Livingston Lancer basketball team experienced something they have not experienced all season: a losing streak. The Lancers lost their second straight game Thursday in Montclair against the Cougars, 50-38.
Livingston came into this game coming off a crushing loss to Montclair where they were in control but lost on a heartbreaking buzzer beater by Tahlib Swan of Montclair on Tuesday.
“We had our share of opportunities,” Livingston head coach Dave Cohen said.  “We weren’t too sharp on offensive and this is a tough place to play.”
Livingston has only allowed an average of 42 points per game up until Wednesday where they allowed 50. Defensively Livingston got away from their principles and allowed the Cougars to go on a 12-2 run over the final four minutes and take a commanding halftime lead of 21-8. MKA guard Kevin Brown scored eight of his 11 points in the first half.

A Brown bucket to close out the half made it seem as the Cougars were destined to have “one of those days” from the field finishing six-of-13 in the first half.

“They made some shots from the outside and we had to extend our defense,” senior forward Alex Haberman said. “They beat us by 7 in the quarter and held a 13 point lead; we had to make some adjustments on both ends of the floor.”
Haberman finished with five points and seven rebounds.
Livingston’s offensive adjustments worked in the second half but the Cougars continued to shoot well from the field and start dominating the post with Josh Cherry.

Cherry finished with a game high of 14 points, ten in the second half, and ten rebounds.
“We had two strong wins (University and Orange) coming into this week,” Cohen said. “Now we are right back in the thick on things in one of the best conferences in the state.”

Livingston falls to 5-5 with this loss. The Lancers are scheduled to play Millburn on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Livingston for a cross-conference game.
