Livingston Girls Lacrosse Team Looks Forward to the 2014 Season

LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Livingston High School Girls Lacrosse program is gearing up for their 2014 spring season. Last year, the LHS Varsity Girls lacrosse team ended with an 11-5 record. With an exceptional season behind him, Varsity Coach, Dave Cohen said he is excited to see what this year’s team can accomplish.

“We are in a new league with highly competitive schools,” head coach Dave Cohen said. “With nine returning seniors, and an enthusiastic group of underclassmen, we are looking to be in contention for the league and county championships.”

Even with the loss of talented seniors, Cohen said the team still has talented and experienced players to lead their team to victory. Cohen, along with assistants Lila Alfaro and Jodi Mensch said they are confident in their girls.

“Our senior leadership and keeping everyone healthy is crucial to achieving our goals,” Cohen said. “Fans should look out for senior Jordan Bonvini.”

As a four-year varsity letter holder, Bonvini holds the school record for goals scored, and was a top-10 goal scorer in the state last year.

He also said that senior Alyssa Egner will “astonish fans with her speed and scoring ability," and that "fans will also want to keep their eye on incoming freshmen Nicole Levenback."

Defensively, three-year Varsity goalie Julia Locke will be the nucleus for success. Locke is anchored by captains Gina Coviello and Chloe Siegel.

“Locke brings her experience and tenaciousness by leading her defense,” said Coach Cohen.

With hard practices and upcoming scrimmages, the Girls Lacrosse team is working hard to get ready for their first game.

“Our girls will succeed because they are ambitious,” Cohen said. “Each year we have become more competitive and this year’s group of girls are mentally and physically prepared to accomplish something no other Livingston girls lacrosse team has ever accomplished. They have put in the time and are striving for a winning season.”

The Livingston Girls Varsity Lacrosse team's true test begins on Wednesday, March 26, at 4:30 p.m., when they play their first game of the season at Cranford High School.
