Livingston Girls Soccer Earns First-Round Victory Over Bloomfield in North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 Tournament

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Despite a rough first game following the Livingston girls soccer team’s intense Essex County Championship victory on Sunday, a goal apiece from Olivia Shevrin and Kayla Parsons, both assisted by Tori Belcuore, led the Lancers (No. 1) to a 2-0 victory over Bloomfield (No. 16) in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 tournament on Tuesday.

“For us, it was tough mentally and physically today, especially trying to rebound after Sunday’s incredible game,” said Raiz. “But we got the job done nonetheless. Maybe it wasn’t our best game and we missed some opportunities but we got the goals we needed. We did what we had to do and we’re looking forward to the next game.”

Coming off the high of Sunday’s victory over Montclair, Livingston had to bench a few girls on Tuesday due to injuries.

However, the Lancers still managed a dozen shots on goal, with 10 blocked by Bloomfield keeper Isabella Pico. Livingston keeper Nicole Kwoczka blocked the one shot Bloomfield had on her.

“I give [Bloomfield] credit, I think they’re really well coached,” said Raiz. “They’re the kind of team that’s getting better each year and they played the right way. I told their coach that he should be proud of his girls—they played hard.”

The Lancers will now head into the section quarterfinals on Friday against Passaic Tech, which also won its first-round match on Tuesday.

Stating that Passaic Tech is another gradually improving team with dangerous scorers, Raiz said he believes his girls are more well-rounded and that the team’s plan is to maintain a solid defense and create as many opportunities as possible on Friday.
