BELLEVILLE, NJ — The top-seeded Livingston Lancers girls soccer team will battle Montclair for the Essex County title on Sunday at Montclair State University following the Lancers’ 2-0 victory over Mount St. Dominic Academy in the semifinals on Wednesday.
A goal a piece from Livingston’s Kayla Parsons and Olivia Shevrin, with assists from Tori Belcuore and Ashley Reuter. Livingston’s offense impressed with 13 shots on goal overall. The Lancers defense proved equal to its offense, allowing Mount St. Dominic only one shot, blocked by Livingston goalie Nicole Kwoczka.
No. 1 seed Livingston’s Essex County Championship opponent also won its semifinal game on Wednesday, 1-0, against No. 2 Nutley, with Montclair’s sole goal scored in double overtime by freshman Audrey Smallman.
With an overall record of 14-1, the Livingston High School girls soccer team earned the No. 1 seed in the NJSIAA State Tournament when the tournament brackets were announced on Wednesday.
In the first round of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 Tournament on Nov. 1 at Livingston, the Lancers will take on No. 16 Bloomfield at 3 p.m. The winner will take on the winner of the match between No. 8 North Bergen and No. 9 Passaic Tech in the quarterfinals on Nov. 4.
The Lancers earned the top seed with Ridgewood at No. 2, Montclair at No. 3, Randolph at No. 4, Kearny at No. 5, Clifton at No. 6, West Orange at No. 7, North Bergen at No. 8, Passaic Tech at No. 9 and Union City rounding out the top 10.
Section tournament quarterfinals, should the Lancers defeat Bloomfield, will take place on Nov. 4, with section semifinals and finals on Nov. 8 and Nov. 11. Group semifinals and group finals are currently scheduled for Nov. 15 and Nov. 19.
