LIVINGSTON, NJ — In the final round of the first girls volleyball tournament at Eastern High School on Saturday, the Livingston Lancers earned a 25-22 victory over the team that defeated them in the finals in 2015, St. John Vianney. The Lancers ultimately finished the day 10-0.
Livingston High School Head Coach Alan Partelow attributed the victory to the “deep talent” throughout the team this season.
The starting line up for Lancers in 2016 is led by four senior captains, including setter Gayle Edelstein, outside hitter Victoria Fogg, outside hitter Rachel Cherny and middle hitter Desi Brower. The line-up for this seasaon is completed with defensive specialist Samantha Fern, junior Libero Alice Ng, junior middle Spohie Kushner and junior opposite Kassandra Thomas.
Senior defensive specialists and opposites Samara Spiler, Erin Dunne and Stephanie Tam supply extra support there, Partelow said. Offensively, the Lancers have many options, including juniors Sasha Webber, Samantha Walkow and Natalie Rulka at the middle hitting position, and Annie Guo and Eryn Goldstein on the outside hitting position.
In its first match of the regular season on Sept. 8, the girls’ volleyball team earned a victory over the defending County Champions Montclair Kimberly Academy, 2-0.
In the regular season match against MKA on Thursday, Partelow said the Lancers took control early with strong serving and serve receive.
This week, the Lancers take on Cedar Grove, West Essex and Ridge high school on the road in regular season matches and will once again enter an all-day tournament on Saturday at Bloomfield High School. The next match is against Cedar Grove at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
