Livingston High School Varsity Baseball Hopes for Comeback After Recent Losses

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Despite some recent losses, Livingston High School’s varsity pitcher Logan Bushwell was voted the top pitcher in the Super Essex Conference (SEC) with 14,067 votes, or 38.46 percent of the 36,000 total fan votes. With a current record of 3-7, Livingston is considered No. 8 in the conference.

Montclair’s pitcher Mark Uelinger, whose team is considered No. 3 in the conference, finished in second place with 10,469 votes, and Glen Ridge’s Owen Hannigan came in third with 7,128.

Livingston plays its next game against Belleville, which has a similar record of 2-9, on Monday, April 25, at 4 p.m.

The Lancers suffered a few losses in recent weeks, including one to Millburn, No. 7, on April 21, which ended in a final score of 6-2. Austin Miles and Nick Cotugno each contributed one RBI to the final score.

Livingston was also defeated by Newark Academy, 5-4, on April 19, and Roxbury, 6-2, on April 16. The Lancers played a tough game against Newark Academy and had a strong lead until Newark Academy came ahead in the sixth inning. Miles, Cotugno, Corey Weiss and Kasey Chambers each picked up an RBI for Livingston.

The Lancers defeated Bloomfield, 5-4, on April 18, with hits by Miles, Max Spitz and Austin Chambers that gave Livingston the lead after trailing earlier in the game.  

Livingston High School junior Austin Miles currently holds third place in the next fan poll for Top SEC Infielder. Miles trails behind West Orange infielder Don Hughes, who currently has nearly 45 percent of the fan votes, and Montclair’s Danny Banks, who has more than 35 percent.

Fans are encouraged to vote early and often before the poll closes on Wednesday, April 27 at 11:59 p.m., to make sure their favorite is selected.

NJ Governor Signs Executive Order to Fly Flags at Half-Staff to Recognize Parkland Florida Victims

New Jersey Governor Phillip D. Murphy signed Executive Order No.1 on Monday ordering the flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of New Jersey to be flown at half-staff to recognize and mourn the passing of the victims in Parkland, FL.

The order is for all state offices, agencies and municipalities, including schools for Tuesday, Feb. 20.
