LIVINGSTON, NJ — In recognition of the November 2020 election being held primarily through mail in New Jersey, pursuant to Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order, the Township of Livingston has installed a secure drop box behind town hall with 24-hour camera surveillance in place to help “make voting by mail as easy and secure as possible,” according to Mayor Rudy Fernandez.

“This should give voters the additional piece of mind that their vote won’t get lost or misdirected in the U.S. mail, and we encourage all of the town’s residents to use it,” said Fernandez. “Every race on this year’s ballot is important, so please learn about each of the candidates and vote in this November’s election.”

All active, registered voters in New Jersey will automatically receive a prepaid return-postage vote-by-mail ballot from the Essex County Clerk. Although voters can vote in person on Election Day, they will be only able to do so by using a provisional ballot unless they are disabled.

“As a result, it is expected that most voters will be using their vote-by-mail ballots,” said Fernandez, who can be seen in the photos above, standing at the newly installed drop box with his fellow township council members and Essex County Freeholder At-Large Patricia Sebold.

Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3, 2020 election. The Livingston Clerk’s Department will be open until 9 p.m. on Oct. 13 for voter registration.

The locked drop box is now available for mail-in ballots at the rear entrance to Livingston Town Hall, located at 357 S. Livingston Avenue. Mail-in ballots can also be sent at the post office or placed in a standard mailbox.

A full list of secure drop boxes located in Essex County can be found HERE. Anyone who will be out of town for the election and need a mail-in ballot sent to a different address should download the mail-in ballot application or visit the clerk’s department for the application.
