Livingston Lancers Beats Columbia Cougars, 17-7

LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Livingston Lancers football team defeated Columbia Cougars, 17-7, in the third game of the season.

The Cougars scored a first rushing touchdown by wide receiver Ahmaad Dent.  An extra point, with 6:52 into the first quarter, gave the Cougars a seven-point lead.

The Cougars' defense held Livingston to three first downs for most of the first and second quarter.

With a minute and a half left in the second quarter, Cougars threatened on the 20-yard line. Cougar quarterback Jimmy Martinez, attempted a quarterback sneak but was stopped by defensive back Greg Glassman to prevent a possible touchdown.

With 23 seconds left, the Lancers defense stopped a field goal attempt to end the first half at a 7-0 lead for Columbia.

Opening the second half, Columbia wide receiver and kick returner Eriq Royal ran the kick-off to the 49 yard line, giving the Cougars excellent field position to start the third quarter. However, with 3:27 into the third quarter the Lancers defense stopped the Cougars on 4th and short to obtain their first possession of the second half.

Jake Rosenbaum ran in to score the Lancers their first touchdown with 6:45 left in the third quarter. The extra point was good, making the score, 7-7.

In the late third quarter, Chase Everett made key plays to stop Columbia's offense.

With 6:17 left in the game Lancer kicker, Mark Silvestri kicked a field goal to give them the lead for the first time in the game, 10-7.

Cougars punted the ball to Lancers and Lancers blocked the ball and Jonny Schreiber fell on the ball midfield to give Lancers great field position.

With 3:30 left in the game, Rosenbaum ran in for his second touchdown of the night to make the score 17-7, final.

“I think we showed great resiliency coming back in the second half.  Anytime you come back in the second half against a real good team like Colombia, it speaks volumes about your kids,” said head coach Barry Kostibos.

“We just found a way to win, which is what good teams have to do. I’m very pleased.”

“We worked really hard this week – we had a lot of distractions, a lot of injuries,” said, Rosenbaum. “This is a hard working team; we were in the weight room all winter.  We were stronger than any team that’s been in this school and we deserve this win.”

The Lancers are scheduled to play away against Montclair on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m.

Don’t Complain; Vote!

It’s no secret that people have strong feelings about what’s happening in our country. It’s also true that much of politics is local. In November, 11th District residents will have the opportunity to choose a new congressional representative who will not only serve as a critical check on the federal level, but also determine how our distract fares ...

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
