LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Public Library (LPL) announced Sunday that the facility will begin offering “Browse and Borrow” access to a selection of curated materials four days a week beginning on Tuesday at 10 a.m. In addition to continuing its popular contactless pickup service on Monday and Thursdays, LPL will also provide access to patrons for up to one hour while they select materials and pick up holds on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Contactless pickup will not be offered while the building is open to the public, and is only available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays. Browse and Borrow days will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with longer hours on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There is no access to the Youth Services wing, café area or the Adult Services wing at this time, although popular items have been curated by staff and will be available for browsing and borrowing. Access to study spaces, seating areas, printing, photocopying or faxing also remains closed until further notice. Computer access and Reference/Tech Help is available by appointment only by calling (973) 992-4600 ext. 26.
The LPL will also be introducing a new app-based product called “MeeScan” that will allow patrons a completely contactless way to check out materials. A tutorial on how to use the MeeScan app can be seen at the end of this article.
Masks are required for both contactless pickup and in-person browsing, and social distancing guidelines will be strictly enforced. Patrons should not enter the library if they are experiencing a fever, cough or chills, and all patrons under age 16 must be attended by a parent, guardian or other responsible adult.
Material returns will be accepted only through the book drops and will be quarantined for 72 hours before they are handled and removed from the patron’s card. Patrons should not attempt to return items to staff at the service desk.
Those looking for specific items should visit www.livingstonlibrary.org or call (973) 992-4600 to place a request and will be notified when it is ready for pick up.
