LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston High School senior Rohat Chari was recently selected to receive a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship worth up to $200,000 through a highly competitive national selection process.

According to Livingston Public Schools, which recently enjoyed a visit from Petty Officer Makenzie Holmes to present Chari with a ceremonial scholarship check—the award covers “full tuition and other financial benefits at many of the country's leading colleges and universities.”

Chari will be attending the University of Rochester in New York in the fall, where he will participate in the school’s on-campus ROTC program. Upon earning his degree, he will serve five years of active military service in the US Navy.

The senior noted that he has always been interested in military service. He also said that guidance counselor Loraine Morgenroth “was invaluable” during the NROTC scholarship application process

Holmes stated during his visit that in addition to an essay and academic accomplishments, such as course grades and SAT scores, outside interests and extracurricular activities are considered when reviewing the applications.
