LIVINGSTON, NJ — During this time of social distancing, Livingston Symphony Orchestra members have been meeting with musical director Anthony LaGruth for Zoom meetings scheduled weekly on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
In what has become “Listening with LaGruth,” these Tuesday evening rehearsals have been set aside to explore a representative work by a different composer each week. The story of the composer’s life is examined, followed with explanations of the score and themes and, finally, the opportunity to listen to the piece.
Music chosen by LaGruth and/or orchestra musicians since early May has included Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Dvorak’s "Symphony No.9,” Elgar’s “Enigma Variations,” Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 5" and works by Sibelius and Copland amongst others.
