Livingston Team “4 My Cuz” to Support Valerie Fund 2014 Walk/5K Run on June 14

VERONA, NJ - On Saturday, June 14, Essex County’s Verona Park will once again be the site of The Valerie Fund Walk and JAG Physical Therapy 5K Run. More than 4,000 people are expected to attend and all net proceeds will benefit the children with cancer and blood disorders of The Valerie Fund. Click HERE to register for the certified 5K Race and the Walk or call The Valerie Fund offices at 973-761-0422.

Currently, Team “4 My Cuz,” from Livingston, which has raised over $8,000 for the Valerie Fund, is number seven on the Top 10 list of teams who have raised the most money. The team is encouraging everyone to come out with them to support the Valerie Fund on the 14th. They said that if people can’t attend, they can still donate via the Valerie Fund website because “every little bit counts toward the Valerie Fund’s ultimate goal of $1,000,000.”

Team 4 My Cuz was started by team captain Howard in honor of his cousin Alex, who at a very young age was diagnosed with kidney cancer. According to Howard, thanks to all of the staff members behind the Valerie Fund, Alex was able to beat it as a baby.

Now, Alex is 19 years cancer free and counting. Howard said that Alex recently finished up his junior year at Penn State and keeps moving forward.

But, Howard didn’t want to just stop at Alex. Instead, he said started this team to continue raising money for the children who, like Alex, turn to the Valerie Fund in a time of need.

The hallmark of The Valerie Fund services ensures that families and hospitals do not have to rely on insurance reimbursements to receive the range of support of a multi-disciplinary team. More than 4,000 children with cancer and blood disorders are treated annually by a network that is one of the largest of its kind in the country.

A representative of The Valerie Fund said that Sponsorships continue to be the foundation of the event’s success and that the individuals and businesses donating to the Walk have made it a priority to support the communities in which their employees live and work.

The Valerie Fund “applauds their commitment and willingness to give back and takes great pride in sharing some of the major sponsor’s names including CareOne, Atlantic Health, Barnabas Health, Morgan Melhuish Abrutyn, Summit Medical Group, U.S. Trust, Wakefern Food Corp. and the Inserra, Saker and Village ShopRite Families and JAG Physical Therapy, underwriter of the 5K Run.”
