SUSSEX, NJ — Livingston’s all-girls Exit 5 Robotics (E5R) team #15280 recently finished seventh out of 27 New Jersey teams in the High Point VEX Robotics Competition (VRC).
The team also finished the day with the Design Award, given to teams demonstrating an organized and professional approach to robot design and project management.
With some early-morning heroics and feverish work, the Livingston team got its robot working in time for the morning competition matches. Given the rough start, E5R started slowly in the first match with low expectations, but consistently improved its robot in between matches.
Eventually, E5R was able to rack up wins throughout the day, finishing in seventh place overall and garnering one of the four alliance captain spots.
The girls’ accomplishments in this competition qualify them for the NJ State VRC Championship to be held on Feb. 24 at Cherry Hill High School.
