March Construction Updates

LIVINGSTON, NJ – The Water Department of the DPW and The Department of Transportation (DOT) have announced the following projects in March.

East Mount Pleasant Avenue

According to Township officials, on Thursday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m., the Water Division of the Department of Public Works will be conducting a repair to the Water Main on East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, in the area of Tiffany Drive and Temple Beth Shalom. Traffic will be diverted at Shrewsbury Drive and East Mt. Pleasant, and at Laurel Avenue and East Mt. Pleasant. There will be detours set up around the work area. Please choose an alternate route while the repair is being made.

Northfield Road

Also, the Water Main work on the section of Northfield Road between Hillside and Intervale has been completed for now.

Route 10, Over the Passaic River Bridge, in East Hanover Township

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is planning to begin its superstructure replacement project of (Morris County) and Livingston Township (Essex County).

The DOT is inviting the public to a Public Information Meeting to be held at the Hanover Park High School Cafeteria, located at 63 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, in East Hanover Township on Monday, March 10, at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to stop by at any time that is convenient for them within the 6-8 p.m. timeframe. Members of the NJDOT staff will be available to answer questions and discuss concerns.

The Project: 
On or about April 7, NJDOT construction will begin on the Route 10 Bridge that crosses the Passaic River into East Hanover.

The work will involve a complete Bridge Deck removal and replacement. Proposed work hours will include days, nights and weekends, according to the Contractor’s schedule, until the work has been completed. The entire project could last 1 to 2 years; however the DOT expects it to be substantially completed by approximately November 2014 to December 2014.

Bridge reconstruction is planned in two primary stages:

First Stage: Eastbound traffic will be diverted to River Road and onto Old Mt. Pleasant Avenue during construction. Westbound lanes will remain open until the eastbound bridge deck is completed.

Second Stage:  Eastbound trucks only, on Route 10, will be detoured via South Ridgedale/Columbia Turnpike—South Orange Avenue, North on Eisenhower Parkway, and back to Route 10.

NOTE:  Two westbound travel lanes will remain open to car traffic throughout the entire construction period.

Detours and temporary traffic signals will be used whenever needed throughout the course of the construction.

Drivers are asked to please plan an alternate route during construction.
