TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two first-place finishes by senior Philmon Mehari highlighted the Livingston High School boys' indoor track team performance at the Section 1, Group 4 championships on Saturday.
Livingston placed fourth in the team standings with 249 points, with Mehari claiming two gold medals and junior Siraj Akmal winning a silver. Mehari won the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs. He ran a 4:26.24 in the 1600 and 9:44.0 in the 3200. Akmal was second in the pole vault with a throw of 11-00.00.
Two other Lancer boys finished in the top 10 in their events, including Quinn Devlin, who was fifth in the high jump at 5-08.00, and Sean Miller, who was seventh in the 800-meter race at 2:03.38.
For the Livingston girls, senior Kayla Hudson finished second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.98. Stella Scheier came in fourth in the 800-meter race in 2:24.39. Livingston pole vaulter Anna Sang and sprinter Elizabeth Lam also had top 10 finishes.
