Livingston artist Michal Barkai , who works in pastel, oil and digital photography, was elected President of the Pastel Society of New Jersey (PSNJ) in a general meeting held on October 18, 2014. She will serve as President for a term of two years.
Barkai, who has been active in several art organizations in the past, has served on the PSNJ board since 2009 and previously held the positions of Publicity Coordinator, Corresponding Secretary and Master Pastelist Administrator.
The Pastel Society of New Jersey was founded in 2005 and will celebrate it's 10th anniversary in Spring 2015. It is devoted to promoting educational activities such as programs, demonstrations and workshops of pastel techniques, exhibiting pastel paintings of professional quality, and promoting public interest in pastel paintings. Barkai held several solo exhibitions this year, showing a large selection of her paintings at Crane's Mill Towne Square Gallery in West Caldwell, and her photographs at Frelinghuysen Arboretum's Haggerty Education Center Gallery.
Her coming holiday small artwork show and sale, titled "Home for the Holidays", will be held at the Livingston Gallery from November 25 - December 23.
The Gallery is located at 40 S. Livingston Ave. in Livingston , NJ and is open 10 :00am to 6:00pm , Monday-Saturday .
