Montclair Man Arrested for Murder of Irvington Man, Police Say

NEWARK, NJ - Brandon Williams, 22, of Montclair has been charged and arrested with the murder of 22-year-old James Goff of Irvington, police officials announced on Sunday.

Williams is a 2012 graduate of Montclair High School and former player on the MHS football team. 

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose stated that the homicide that occurred Sunday at 2:30 a.m., happened in the 200 block of Clifton Avenue in Newark.

Shortly after the shooting, Williams was detained by Newark Police Department; and after further investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, Williams was charged with murder, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.

Williams’ bail has been set at $750,000 with no 10-percent option by Essex County Superior Court Judge Marcella Wilson. He is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.

“Thanks to the quick response of the Newark Police Department and investigation by the Homicide Task Force, an arrest was made today,” said Murray.
