MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair has been designated as one of the 30 safest college towns in the nation, according to a recently published report.
SafeWise, a company that provides security brand comparisons and community safety reports, recently named Montclair as one of the 30 safest college towns in the country, ranking 26th.
SafeWise safety experts analyzed the FBI's most recent crime statistics from 2015 to calculate the total number of crimes committed in America cities with at least one accredited, academic institution of higher learning. From there, analysts weighed those numbers in relation to population numbers and other important factors.

Safewise cites Montclair’s participation in the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority in the Street Smart NJ campaign as one of the factors contributing to safety in the township. Street Smart NJ aims to educate drivers and pedestrians and improve enforcement of transportation laws and rules.
