Kamal Johnson of East Orange was charged with shoplifting clothing valued at $342.50 from Macy’s at the Livingston Mall.
Johnson had no criminal history; the case was downgraded to a petty disorderly person offense and remanded from Essex County to the Livingston Municipal Court. Johnson pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 10 days of community service. He paid a $500 fine, $33 in court costs, $50 to the Victims of Crime Compensation Organization and $75 to the state neighborhood fund. Johnson also made $342.50 restitution to Macy’s.
Tyeasha McRae of East Orange was charged with theft of lost or mislaid property. The victim was shopping at the Old Navy store in the Livingston Mall; she left her phone with her daughter, who misplaced the phone. When the victim attempted to call her phone, McRae answered and demanded $100 for the phone’s return. The victim contacted police and arranged to meet McRae at the Starbucks in Livingston. McRae was arrested there by the Livingston PD.
McRae had no criminal history and the case was downgraded to a a petty disorderly person offense. McRae pleaded guilty to an amended charge of violating township ordinance 212-3 or creating a disturbance on town property. She paid a $150 fine and $33 in court costs.
