LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Area Chamber of Commerce and members of the Livingston Township Council recently commemorated the openings of Main Shoe & Handbag Repair, located at 113 South Livingston Avenue, and Blaze Pizza, located at 374 West Mt. Pleasant Avenue with celebratory ribbon cuttings.
Main Shoe & Handbag Repair, which fixes shoes in addition to manufacturing and repairing custom handbags, has been in Livingston for nearly two months. Owner Isaac Assia, who originally owned a shop in Clifton, said the Livingston community has been extremely welcoming thus far and that costumers have been taking well to his service.
“We wish them the best of luck and we encourage all of our residents to support local businesses,” said Livingston Mayor Shawn Klein. “If you have shoes that are damaged or you need a bag repaired, you couldn’t do better than to come here and get it fixed.”
According to Klein, the council is currently taking steps to encourage retail businesses in the area, including combining parking lots and making the streets more pedestrian-friendly through the “Complete Streets” initiative. Klein said both efforts would also alleviate some traffic make shopping more enjoyable.
“By having stores that provide services—that kind of ‘Amazon-proofs’ the town in the sense that these are people who can provide skills and services and you’re not going to be able to do that online,” said Klein. “We’re always happy as a township to have these kinds of service provided come into our storefronts and be able to service our residents.”
Blaze Pizza, which is now open daily, is one of the four retailers that was recently welcomed to the Shoppes at the Livingston Circle. The franchise is known for offering “fast-fire'd” customized pizza. It is also a “bring your own” and allows customers to order online.
