NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Nine-year-old Lucas Reiling, the son of former Livingston resident and 1986 graduate Joseph Reiling, has been battling inoperable brain tumors since he was two years old. Lucas is in a wheelchair and requires bulky equipment for his care. Thanks to the support and generosity of many, the Reiling's New Providence residence is currently under construction in order to provide a handicap accessible space that will give Lucas the room he needs to live the best life possible.

Lucas' mom, Amy Reiling, expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thanks to all of the fundraisers, outstanding foundations, and the generous community in our town and beyond, our dream room for Lucas is being realized. This past June, we broke ground on this incredible project and we are hopeful that it will be completed by Thanksgiving."

With plenty of work still to be done, including cabinetry to house Lucas's equipment, flooring, and a special bed, the New Providence Pioneers Football Team wants to help complete the project. The team is honoring Lucas at their game on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. at Lieder Field in New Providence.  All proceeds from the games as well as all proceeds from the gofundme page that the team initialized, will be donated to Lucas for the completion of his room.
Amy and Joseph Reiling told TAPinto New Providence, "We hope to see everyone there, not only to support Lucas, but also to support these amazing young men who wanted to do something special for our son."
"What gave me the idea to do this was to show how special Lucas really is and how much of an impact he can have on people," said New Providence High School student Russell Davidson. "He is a great kid with a lot of potential and to be able to have him honored for a football game would be incredibly special for our team and this town. He is a hero to us for how strong he is and how he is never going to give up fighting."

Extra Time

It was close to 70 minutes into the match and I had to go to the bathroom.  Badly.

As fans watching the World Cup know too well, bathroom breaks are a serious dilemma, especially for those who don’t have a TV in the loo.  This biological necessity is exasperated by beer, which during World Cup matches also fuels a strong propensity to throw chairs and instigate riots.
