WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -- Wood-Ridge officials joined members of the hospitality group for a groundbreaking cermony for the new lifestyle hotel building built in the borough on Wednesday afternoon.

Mayor Paul Sarlo and Borough Administrator Christopher Eilert joined members of Livingston-based The Briad Group at the site on Route 17 South. It is the former location of TGIFriday's, which was demolished in February 2019.

"Clearly this is a great new ratable for our community, especially as we focus on the eastern portion of the town along the Route 17 corridor," said Mayor Paul Sarlo. "The is a great new addition to our town. We're hoping that in attracts people from the area."

Sarlo explained that the roof-top bar won't impede "upon the residents up above," as they used drones to survey the area.

"We're building a state-of-the-art beautiful hotel," said Rick Barbrick, President Co-CEO and COO of The Briad Group. "The rooftop is going to be a really unique experience because you're going to have views of Manhattan, as well as a very modern, very inviting, very comfortable environment to be in."

He also touted the hotel as "very eco-friendly" in design and amenities.

The Wood-Ridge location will be the third Element by Westin in New Jersey, and is known for its ergonomic design, green, sustainable products and outdoor inspired vibrant living. The Bradford, a unique roof-top bar and tapas restaurant, wil have views of New York City. The hotel will have 126 rooms on six floors, with the restaurant on the seventh floor.

A grand opening is planned for summer 2020.
