Obituary: Livingston's Joseph Michael "Joey" Falcone Dies at 69

Joseph Falcone, 69, orders his "usual" at Seymour's

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Born on Nov. 11, 1947, Joseph Michael "Joey" Falcone, a lifelong Livingston resident, died on Aug. 14, 2017 after 69 years in town.

Falcone began his education at a variety of schools when Special Education was in its infancy. He spent time in Millburn, West Orange and Livingston, and graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1968.

During his later school years, Falcone was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 73 in West Orange, which he thoroughly enjoyed. In 1969, he was hired by the Livingston Post Office, where he spent 39 years as a Mailhandler.

During his years in school and at the post office, Falcone was very involved in many outside activities, from helping out at the Haines Community Pool, to working at the Snack Stand at Livingston High Football games, to being an equipment manager at Heritage Junior High School, to helping out friends in the neighborhood.

Falcone was an avid Yankees, Rangers, Knicks, Jets fan who enjoyed all games either on TV or in person. He also enjoyed vacations at the Jersey Shore, Hilton Head, SC, Jupiter, FL and Martha's Vineyard, MA.

During his lifetime, Falcone was recognized with numerous awards and citations, from the US Post Office for attendance and service, and for his suggestion for more efficiently moving the mail, to being honored by Elon University (his nephew Peter's alma mater) as being a Home Town Hero, to the US Post Office Region doing a promotional video on his work, to a special on Livingston Cable TV, to the West Essex Tribune highlighting him living alone, to the Big L Club naming him “No. 1 Sports Fan.”

Falcone enjoyed his friends and family very much, had a wonderful, full life and has left many happy memories with all he has come into contact with.

Falcone was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Nettie. He is survived by his brother, Paul, (Buddy) and Paul’s wife, Janet, of Basking Ridge; his nephew Peter of Atlanta, GA; his nephew Michael and wife Jane of Denver, CO; and his great nieces, Sophia and Lucy, along with many cousins and wonderful friends. He is also survived by his caregiver, Susanna.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, located at 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue in Livingston.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena's Church in Livingston, with interment immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that a donation to The Livingston Big L Club, Livingston First Aid Squad or a charity of the individual’s choice be made in Joe's name.
