WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD CAMP, WHAT VISUAL COMES TO MIND?

George: A six lb. marshmallow.

Dan: That “camp smell,” bonfires, sunshine and children laughing and playing all day long.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS BUSINESS?

George: Born into it…quite literally…born late 1964…my parents took over Camp Echo Lake from my grandparents in 1965…a total love affair from day one….why not?

Dan: I’ve been a camper at heart my entire life, spending years at sleepaway camp and working at local day camps. I met George a few years ago, we clicked instantly with our passion for sports (although I’m a Giants fan) and our love for camp. Our conversations were either about NY Jets Football or how we could run a camp together.  The Jets are still the Jets, but Meadowbrook is now home for both of us.

FAVORITE CAMP LUNCH?

George: Very partial to pizza in virtually any form – French bread, bagel, traditional, etc.

Dan: I’d say pizza bagels followed closely by Camp BBQ!

IF YOU COULD NAME A COLOR WAR TEAM AFTER YOU, WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED?

George:  Easy one….The Fabulous Fuzzies

Dan:  Millman’s Maniacs I guess (this was a tough one); or The Yellow Animaniacs (in sticking with MCDC’s blue and yellow theme)

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP, I FEEL:

George: Lots of adrenaline…similar to when I suited up to play college football eons ago …butterflies and excitement…everything going at lightning speed…feeling very much alive!

Dan: Ecstatic, Energetic and like a camper all over again. We all live 10 months for 2.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE MEADOWBROOK FAMILY IS:

George:  Meadowbrook has lots of soul…not true of all places. It comes primarily from the outstanding Leadership Team that we have been graced with.

Dan: How this family has welcomed both me and George. This is a truly unique camp, headed by the greatest group of people, our Leadership Team I’ve ever had the chance to work with. Our staff is what makes Meadowbrook rock.

I KEEP CAMP ON MY MIND YEAR ROUND BY:

George: When your off season office is at camp it’s not terribly hard…three- year-old laughter emanating from the playground each day (our nursery school students)….walking across the fields, the bus lot, the bunks and the field house each day even in snowy winter…can’t beat it…

Dan: Coming to camp every day to ensure that 2017 is the best summer ever and that Meadowbrook’s future is brighter than ever.

FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO YOU AT CAMP WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

George:  Not sure if this was the funniest but definitely one of the most fun…dressing up as clowns for camp carnival with my dad.

Dan: Not sure if I can highlight one specific instance, although the time I went waterskiing as a nine year old and my bathing suit fell down comes to mind, but I can honestly say that my 10 plus years at Camp Schodack helped shape who I am today. Every child should get to experience camp in some capacity, day or overnight.

Letter to the Editor: Don't Complain. Vote!

April 12, 2018

Don’t Complain; Vote!

It’s no secret that people have strong feelings about what’s happening in our country. It’s also true that much of politics is local. In November, 11th District residents will have the opportunity to choose a new congressional representative who will not only serve as a critical check on the federal level, but also determine how our distract fares ...

Cluelessly Clueless

I teenaged my way through high school under the assumption that my parents had no idea what I was doing.  I like to think I was pretty good at withholding information and presenting situations in ways that were other than they really were.

Still, sometimes they found things out.  Like the time my friends plopped me on our front door step at one o'clock in the morning ...
