Rogue Sheep Caught in Livingston is a First for Local Police Department

LIVINGSTON, NJ — When police responded to a call about a sheep running loose in Livingston, the Livingston Police Department announced that the hour-and-a-half chase would go "down in the books" as a first for Livingston's officers.

Police said the sheep got loose from a private residence off near Livingston Ave. and E. McLellan Ave., where police said the owners may have been planning to cook the sheep for Greek Easter dinner on Sunday, May 1. It is unclear as to whether the owners still intend to do so since the animal's capture.

It took the Livingston Police Department nearly two hours to corral the sheep, which was chased throughout several streets on the north side of town and was eventually captured on Hawthorne Dr., police said.

Livingston Fire Chief Christopher Mullin said he provided the animal snare that police used to capure the animal, but clarified that the fire department did not take a part in the chase or capture, as many believed.

More information on what police are calling an "unusual incident" will be provided as it becomes available.
