NEWARK, NJ — Margie Heller, Administrative Director Community Health and Outreach of RWJBarnabas Health in Livingston, received the 2017 Althea Gibson Leadership Award on Wednesday at the Annual Essex County Women’s History Month Celebration.

The Essex County's Annual Women's History Month Program, hosted by Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, was held in the Essex County Hall of Records in Newark.

Althea Gibson was the first African American to cross the color line of international tennis, winning 11 Grand Slams, Wimbledon and the US Open. She was famous for breaking new barriers, not only for African Americans but for all women.

According to RWJBarnabas, Heller was recognized with the 2017 Althea Gibson Leadership Award for her “outstanding leadership in our community and for her unwavering commitment to make our community healthy and well.”
