RWJBarnabas Health Employee Named “General Counsel of the Year in Health Care” by NJBIZ

SOMERSET, NJ — David Mebane, General Counsel of RWJBarnabas Health, was named General Counsel of the Year in Health Care by NJBIZ, New Jersey’s leading business journal, during the 2017 NJBIZ Breakfast Awards Ceremony at The Palace in Somerset.

Mebane drove the large transaction to merge Robert Wood Johnson Health System and Barnabas Health, which was consummated in April 2016. He was also instrumental in creating the Saint Barnabas Health Care System in 1996. He is currently responsible for the system’s legal work, insurance and compliance and is president of its captive insurance company.

Mebane’s career with the system spans nearly 26 years. Prior to his current position, he served as General Counsel for Barnabas Health, Inc. from 2014 to 2016, and as Senior Vice President for Legal Affairs/Chief Legal Officer from 1996 to 2014. 

Previously, he was Vice President/Corporate Counsel for Community/Kimball Health Care System from 1991 to 1996. He also clerked for the Hon. Herman Michels, in the NJ Superior Court, Appellate Division, and practiced at Lowenstein Sandler and Brach Eichler, P.C.

Mebane received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and his law degree from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the American Corporate Counsel Association.

Mr. Mebane and his family are residents of Westfield, NJ.

Man Stabbed in Valley Section of West Orange
