LIVINGSTON, NJ — Throughout the month of April, Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) partners with the New Jersey Sharing Network (NJSN) during Donate Life Month to raise awareness about the critical shortage of organs and tissue for transplantation. Together, the organizations encourage everyone to register as an organ and tissue donor and to talk about it with their friends and family.
In support, SBMC held its annual Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony on April 16, where those who have given the gift of organ and tissue, have received a life-saving transplant and are currently waiting for a transplant were honored.
According to SBMC, one organ donor can save eight lives and restore health to more than 75 individuals through corneas, bone grafts, skin grafts and other soft tissue. One of the most important lifesaving decisions a person can make is to become a registered donor.
