Softball: Livingston's Record Improves with Home Victory Over Nutley, 7-6


LIVINGSTON, NJ — Jaclyn Williamson and Alex Moresco led the Livingston High School softball team to an exciting 7-6 victory over Nutley at home on Monday.

The Lancers came out strong in the first with three earned runs and held a 3-0 lead until the fifth, when they then secured a 5-0 lead. Nutley had a short-lived comeback with four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead.

The Lancers answered with two runs of their own in the final inning to surpass Nutley. Moresco drove in the final run for the team in the seventh with a walk-off single.

Williamson led the Livingston team from the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI in the victory.

The Lancers have a 7-8 overall record and a 4-4 record in conference play. 

Halfway through the season, the team is now tied for third in the conference with Cedar Grove (also 4-4), with both teams trailing only West Essex (7-1) and Mount St. Dominic (7-1).

The Lancers take on Cedar Grove on Wednesday at home and will then play Montclair on Saturday in the first round of the Essex County Tournament.

MILLBURN, NJ - Peter Serruto, who just completed his senior season at Millburn High School, was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 22d round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft on Wednesday.

Serruto was the 649th pick overall.
