Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure Registration Opens

WEST ORANGE, NJ - More than 6,000 people (runners, walkers, visitors, volunteers and staff) are expected to be on site for the 2014 Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure, which is taking place on Sunday, May 14, at the Essex County South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange. Click here or call (908) 277-2904, Ext. 17 to register, volunteer, start a team, or make a donation.

Komen North Jersey raises funds that support life-saving breast cancer screening, breast health/breast cancer education, treatment support, and survivorship programs to underserved women and in the affiliate’s nine-county service region (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties). Since its founding in 1997, Komen North Jersey has awarded over $16 million in local community grants, and has directed more than $7 million to the national research programs aimed at finding new and better treatment options and, ultimately, the causes and cures to eradicate breast cancer forever.

Race Day activities will include: a 5k Run, a 5K Walk and a 1.5 mile Fun Walk. There will be a special Survivor Tent, Survivor Procession and Ceremony, an EXPO area with free giveaways, as well as an I AM THE CURE® booth to learn more about breast self-awareness, food, a Komen for the Cure merchandise tent, a special “Kids’ Dash” and an expanded Kids for the Cure® area with an inflatable obstacle course and lots of fun activities for kids of all ages. Throughout the day, there will be some exciting new entertainment and activities to keep the whole family engaged including a  jousting demonstration by Medieval Times, and the all-new “Endure for the Cure,” an obstacle challenge course by City Obstacle Challenge.

After the Race, participants are invited to stick around to dine at McCloone’s Boathouse, go ice skating at Codey Arena, explore the Turtle Back Zoo, play Safari Mini Golf, enjoy paddle boats, a walking trail and more—all are easily accessible from the Race site. A new package for taking advantage of what this amazing complex has to offer is in the works, at a special reduced price just for participants.
