Summer is flying by as we enter the final weekend of July. Don’t miss the opportunity to spend quality time with your entire family before work and school obligations pop back on the schedule. If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, you can attend any of these free or low-cost events around the North Jersey area.

Christmas in July

South Plainfield is hosting their annual downtown street fair celebrating Christmas in July. The fair will start at Front Street and continue on through Old Hamilton Boulevard on Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Santa Claus will kick off the day leading a parade through the streets while vendors sell crafts and food alongside the roadway. Games will include a dunk tank and remote control car races. Contests during the event include an Ugly Sweater Competition and a Window Decorating Contest.

Peach Festival

New Jersey is well known for celebrating their harvests and many residents look forward to the time summer peaches are ripe for picking. Starting this Saturday and Sunday, Alstede Farms in Chester will be honoring the peach by holding a festival every weekend through August 13th. Featured goodies include peach crumb pie, fried peaches, peach ice cream, and peach slushies. Family activities will include hayrides, pony rides, a moon bouncer, and pick your own peaches. Festival hours are from 11 am to 5 pm.

Green Fest in Washington

Washington in Warren County will have their Saturday farmer’s market and green festival as a way to revitalize the downtown district of the borough. Vendors will sell fresh and local goods such as honey, fruits, vegetables, sausages, jellies, and more. There will be arts and crafts tents for the children as well as live music to entertain shoppers while they explore each stand. Visit from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday at Pocket Park for the event.

Craft Saturdays

Every Saturday, Dey Mansion in Wayne invites children of all ages to make a craft project followed by a tour of the mansion. The mansion played an integral part during the American Revolution by being George Washington’s headquarters. This week’s project is paper kite making. A scavenger hunt with prizes will also be held. Participation cost is $3 and the price includes the activities and tour.
