TBA Book Group Selection for January

TBA Book Group Selection for January

On Thursday, January 6, 2011, at 7:30 PM, Temple B’nai Abraham’s Adult Learning will hold its monthly Book Group led by Rabbi Clifford Kulwin. This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper will be discussed. Though not observant, Morton Foxman’s dying wish was that his entire family—wife, four children, and their families—remain together for the full seven days of Shiva. They unenthusiastically agree. Through the eyes of Judd, the second oldest, we see the inner workings of a family that turns out to be not nearly as unusual as we expect and cannot help but compare to our own.

Looking ahead, the selection for February is The Finkler Question by Howard Jacobson . Winner of the UK’s 2010 Man Booker Prize—the British version of the Pulitzer—The Finkler Question makes it clear why many call Jacobson “the British Philip Roth.” Laugh-out-loud funny at times, biting and sarcastic while insightful and thought provoking, Finkler tells the story of three old friends thrust into a mutual rumination whether Jews really are different. The group will meet on Thursday, February 3 at 7:30 PM to discuss this book.

TBA book selections are available for purchase at booksellers online or at local bookstores. The TBA Book Group is free and open to the community. For information or to register, please call 973- 994-2290. Visit our website at
