LIVINGSTON, NJ — With summer weekends and holidays quickly approaching, The Barker Lounge daycare, boarding and grooming facility of Livingston encourages area dog owners to consider its boarding services as a healthy alternative to a standard kennel.

For $69 per night per dog during the peak summer season all boarding guests at The Barker Lounge participate in all-day cage-less daycare during the day before returning to their kennels in the evening to re-energize for the next day.

“Instead of being cooped up all day while you’re on vacation, your dog will also be in his/her own paradise, including lots of time in the sun in our outdoor play areas,” the Barker Lounge team said. "But don’t worry, we’ve got our outdoor tubs ready for those hot days, so your pup can dip in the refreshing water or splash around with their friends to keep cool. The only time your pooch will ever spend in their suite is during mealtime and bedtime; and when bedtime finally comes around each day, after a full day of playtime, your dog will want nothing other than a good nights rest.”

Boarding is available at The Barker Lounge of Livingston 365 days a year. Overnight guests are able to participate in all indoor and outdoor daycare activities, which occur daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and include wrestling, swimming, fetching, running, napping and playing with friends.

At bedtime, every dog’s bed is made up with a treat on his or her pillow, the lights are turned off and light jazz is filtered into the room to facilitate sweet dreams.

Overnight guests should arrive with their own food and any necessary medications. Customers are responsible for supplying enough of both for their dog’s entire stay.

Although it is best to avoid changing a pet’s normal eating routine, The Barker Lounge will supply food for any dog that does not come with his or her own at a cost of $2 per meal. Clean, stainless bowls will be supplied for all overnight guests.

A blanket, unlaundered T-shirt and/or a favorite toy are also highly encouraged for the dog’s comfort during the nighttime hours. These objects will remain in the dog’s kennel during the daytime hours.

“Here at The Barker Lounge, the safety and comfort of the dogs in our care is always our number one priority.  Filling their day with enriching play ensures the dogs are tuckered out when it's time to retire for the night, and ensuring the dogs have a cozy place to lay down and rest is vital to keeping all our dogs at their best.”

All guests are asked to confirm rates before booking. No check-ins or check-outs will be allowed on major holidays, during which only pooches are allowed on site.

Since opening in the fall of 2020, the Livingston location of The Barker Lounge has attracted dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds and energy levels to its 11,000 square feet of indoor space and more than 4,000 square feet of outdoor play yards.

At The Barker Lounge, all guests are carefully placed with a small group of dogs that are similar in size, temperament and play styles. Within each play group is a human leader who has completed a two-month training program and successfully passed a test demonstrating his or her abilities.
