Township of Livingston Offers Volunteer Opportunities in Senior Transportation

LIVINGSTON, NJ — In Livingston, residents can volunteer now and feel good all the time: All they need are (1) a driver’s license and (2) a desire to help.

Livingston’s Senior, Youth & Leisure Services (SYLS) Department now has opportunities available for volunteers to drive the Township’s Senior Citizen Van.

The van serves as a supplement to the Township’s Senior Transportation Bus. When the bus is filled, adding the additional van means allowing many more senior residents access to free transportation for trips such as those to doctors’ appointments, grocery stores, hair appointments, and trips to the mall.

Volunteer van drivers are welcome to drive as often or as little as they like, and on whichever days of the week are convenient.

“This is a great way for Livingston residents with some extra time to volunteer and help their neighbors who would otherwise have no way to travel,” said Senior Transportation Supervisor Nell Sommese.

Residents interested in volunteering to drive the van may visit the SYLS office at 204 Hillside Avenue in Livingston, or call 973-535-7925 ext. 275 for more information.

Wait. What?

Don’t you have homework to do?

My teenage daughter is watching TV, texting, facetiming, instagramming, listening to music, and typing on a laptop all at the same time.

Don’t you have homework to do?  I have to repeat myself a little louder because she is insulated in her electronic cocoon by ear buds.

“I am doing homework,” ...
