MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Authorities are investigating a triple homicide that occurred in Maplewood, announced Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino on Sunday, Jan. 29.

Three people, two men and a woman, were found dead in a Maplewood apartment on Sunday. At about 11:45 a.m., the Maplewood Fire Department responded to an apartment on Van Ness Ct. to check on the well-being of a resident. Upon entering the apartment, firefighters discovered three unresponsive adults; all were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The three deaths are being investigated as homicides, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending formal identification and notification of next of kin, stated Fennelly. Additionally, the exact cause of death will be determined by autopsies at the Regional Medical Examiner's Office.
