Turtle Back Zoo Breaks Attendance Record with 900,000 Visitors

WEST ORANGE, NJ – With only four days left in 2017, the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo broke its annual attendance record on Wednesday as the Owens/Kusik Family became the 900,000th visitors.

Pictured above, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr., welcomes Joseph Kusik, Alanah Williams and Ikea Owens of East Orange as they visit the Holiday Lights Spectacular shortly after 6 p.m. The family is joined by zoo mascot Myrtle the Turtle, Deputy Parks Director Kate Hartwyk, Turtle Back Zoo Director Michael Kerr, Zoo Supervisor Erin Mowatt and Essex County Parks Director Dan Salvante.

This is the third milestone reached at the zoo in the last month: A new annual attendance record of 795,559 was set on Friday, Nov. 17 and 800,000 in annual attendance was reached for the first time on Friday, Nov. 24.
