Veteran Actor Sean 'Rudy' Astin Makes Surprise Visit to Newark CityPlex 12 to Pitch New Movie

NEWARK, NJ - After hosting a successful Red Carpet event in Sept., Adrianne and Marvin Cratch, founders of The Power of One 3C Foundation, hosted a Green Carpet movie premiere last Thursday.

While most people are somewhat familiar with a Red Carpet event, they didn't have a clue what to expect from a Green Carpet event. As they arrived, they discovered that instead of the attendees donning the traditional Red Carpet tuxedos and gowns, each person came wearing the Jersey of their favorite football team: and pictures and interviews were taken on a green carpet emulating a football playing field.

The program was a premiere for a new film entitled, "Woodlawn," staring Sean Astin, who is best known for his roles in Rudy, Lord of the Rings and Goonies.

To the delight of the attendees, Astin made a surprise appearance; sharing his thoughts and pitching the virtues of this film.

“There are three things I deeply believe in," he declared in his address to the moviegoers, "actually four. Peace, love, forgiveness and community”.

Woodlawn is an adaptation of the true story of Alabama High School Coach Hank Erwin, during the 1970’s. In Woodlawn, Astin plays Erwin, who used a faith-oriented message to ease racial tensions on the football team at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. The team's star was Tony Nathan, who went on to become a running back for the Miami Dolphins.

This was the second movie premier at the CityPlex12 in Newark. The organization is hoping to target local area youths through the message of this movie, “which is to bring hope and something to believe in,” according to Cratch.

In addition to the film, there were also several musical artists performing including Corey Fulmore, 2015 McDonald’s Fest Winner; Che Che Da Superstar, 2013 McDonald’s Fest Winner; God's Desire; Darren Deac; Dominant; The Men of Worship. It was hosted by Pastor Dale Ciceron, the radio personality of Harvest Radio.

On the Green Carpet, attendees were interviewed on ITMTV, a live-streaming show by Dr. Albert Lewis, founder and CEO of the World Gospel Music Association. They were also able to talk to, take photos with and receive autographs from professional football players.
