LIVINGSTON, NJ — Victoria Pevzner, an 11-year-old fencer, placed second in the U-13 Girls’ Foil event at 2018 Challenge Wratislavia, an international youth fencing tournament in Wroclaw, Poland, March 22-26, 2018.
The "13 year-old and under" girls foil event included more than 180 competitors from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine and many other countries.
While Pevzner’s success at Wratislavia can be attributed to her skills and endurance, her ability to focus, mobilize mentally and push through difficult situations played an even greater role.
Pevzner, of South Orange, began fencing nearly four years ago and training at Origin Health & Fitness in Livingston in 2017. Since joining Origin Health & Fitness and V Fencing (also of Livingston), Pevzner’s father, Vadim, notes that she “has been making steady progress, improving her technical skills, physical fitness and mental toughness. Training and conditioning have started to yield visible improvements in her performance.”
Pevzner recognizes that this victory is just the beginning of her journey. She is eager to apply her learning at upcoming tournaments to finish the season on a strong note.
