LIVINGSTON, NJ — As the West Essex area continues to recover from this most recent winter storm, Livingston Public Schools announced that schools will be closed on Friday due to power outages in some school buildings and wires and trees down in some areas near the schools. The Livingston Police Department and Department of Public Works advise residents of the following:

Never go near a downed power line

Treat all lines as live and energized

Never go near a tree with a downed power line; the tree may also be energized

Immediately report downed wires to your electric utility. If  you have questions about outage locations, check your electric utility's outage map.

Due to the large number of wires down, the Police Department is not able to post an officer at every location. Residents are reminded to treat all wires as if they are energized and to keep their distance.

Residents are urged to stay home and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

If overnight or long term sheltering is required, residents of Essex County can access a list of shelters available at www.nj211.org or text 211 for more information.
