One of the most notable dates coming up this weekend is globally celebrated Earth Day. Many communities will be putting together celebrations on Saturday to recognize the importance of taking care of our planet. Many of the festivals are free of charge and open to the general public.

10th Annual Earth Day Celebration

Centenary University in Hackettstown is hosting its yearly Earth Day event on Saturday. Highlights of the event include a petting zoo, bounce house, live music, and an arts and crafts area. There will be plenty of food on hand as well as a fashion show featuring clothing made from recycled materials.

11th Annual Bring the Heat Chili Cook Off

Love chili? Then you won’t want to miss the Clinton First Aid and Rescue Squad’s annual fundraising event. Purchase tasting tickets in advance for $12, or at the door for $15. There will be live music, a tricky tray, and a cash bar. The event will be held at the squad’s headquarters on Saturday from 4-8 p.m.

Northern Valley Earth Fair

Tenakill Middle School in Closter will host a multi-town Earth Day celebration on Saturday. Entry is free and the event will feature vendors showcasing “green” products such as electric cars and solar-powered inventions. There will be conservation displays along with bee demonstrations. Live music and food trucks will be on hand for the duration of the fair. The schedule of events will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m.

Earth Day Festival

Liberty State Park has one of the most popular Earth Day events in the state. The festival is completely free and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 100 vendors and exhibitors are expected to attend. There is also a 5 km run that will be held rain or shine.
