LIVINGSTON, NJ — Beginning Friday, the West Essex YMCA will begin celebrating “Welcome Week” as part of a nationwide event in which many Y’s across the country have opted to participate.
From now until Sept. 24, the West Essex Y will open its doors to the community to participate in many free special events.
On the morning of Sept. 15, events will begin with a Rangoli Indian art exhibit, featuring powdered chalk art that symbolizes the theme “Welcome to Our Home.” The exhibit will be followed by a welcoming party on the front lawn at 11 a.m. and will include adapted recreation activities for those with special abilities.
The week continues with the following schedule:
- An open house for the Y’s English as a Second language program on Sept. 17 at 1:30 p.m.;
- An intergenerational coffee hour on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 2:30 p.m.;
- A Multicultural luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m.; and
- Free fitness classes on the front lawn on both Sept. 17 and Sept. 24.
“There is something for everyone,” said West Essex Y Associate Executive Director Cheryl Francione. “All events are designed to encourage getting to know our community neighbors who come from all different walks of life.”
